Speaking out on Darfur

As a human being, and not just an athlete, I am definitely concerned with what is happening in Darfur.

It’s terrible when anyone has to struggle and fight for their basic human rights, and I think we all as human beings would like to see this tragic situation come to an end.

I believe that politics and sports shouldn’t mix and it is best for the politicians to work out these types of issues.  But if sports can create awareness and shed light on this issue then that’s a good thing.

LeBron's thoughts on Vogue cover

Ok guys, I’m in the thick of the playoffs but I want to discuss something that has nothing to do with how many points I’ve scored, what car I’m driving, etc. I want to talk about this perceived controversy surrounding me and the Vogue cover that I was on with Supermodel Gisele Bundchen.

It was mentioned that I was depicted like King Kong and Gisele was Fay Wray. People my age and kids even younger than me don’t know anything about Fay Wray and the movie King Kong. Do you guys think I look like a huge gorilla in the jungle? That’s offensive!!!!

Now people over 40 may see it differently. Or somebody that looks at everything as being racial. My point is that whatever I do is going to be looked at closely.  That’s part of the business. But please keep an open mind to some things. I do understand that there will always be people who will try and make me look bad, but I’ll always keep a smile on my face.

Besides there are more important things going on like the upcoming presidential election. Get out and vote! It would be great to see history made this time around, like seeing America’s first African-American president. GO OBAMA!!!!

Now, back to the postseason. I’m looking forward to the playoffs and making a run toward a second consecutive NBA Finals appearance. We have a lot of work to do, but I’m confident in my teammates that we can do it!

See ya later,
LeBron

Welcome to the World of King James!

Hey guys, it’s good to reach out to you again.

First, I want to catch you up to what’s been going on in the last month.

The All-Star game in New Orleans was a lot of fun, and I’m not just talking about me winning my second MVP trophy or watching the Slam Dunk contest and all the other things associated with the game.

The biggest thing I’m proud of is what the LeBron James Family Foundation did in New Orleans. With the help of State Farm insurance and with Nike we renovated an indoor basketball court in the Lower 7th Ward of New Orleans. On Friday evening, my foundation hosted a special “Meal and a Movie” with Sprite and the Boys & Girls club. At the “Meal and a Movie” event we showed a trailer of a documentary I’m involved in called “More Than A Game.” It’s a documentary about my four high school friends and how we set out to accomplish a goal by using the game of basketball to help get us there.

I always want to connect with you about the things that I do when I’m not playing basketball. Basketball is an important part of my life, but there are other things going on that are special to me too.

Now, I’m sure you want to know about the big trade the Cavaliers made.

Well, I think the organization made some tough decisions that were in the best interest of the team and I’m for that.

I’m looking forward to the stretch run of the regular season with some of my new teammates, especially Ben Wallace, who will help us on the glass and Wally Szczerbiak who improves our perimeter game. You hate to see any player get traded, because it’s not always about the player. Families are involved sometimes and you have to be sensitive to their needs too. But it’s a business and everybody understands that.

Hopefully, we’ll connect before the postseason starts.
Take care,
LeBron

He's the Man

By Emil Wilbekin

“I’ve always believed that if you put in the work, the results will come.”
— Michael Jordan

LeBron James is the hardest-working man in basketball. What’s nice about his determination and effort is that they are actually recognized by the NBA, the coaches, his peers and, of course, his fans. For LeBron's latest achievement, he was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week from February 18 - 24. This is the third time he’s won the honor this season and the 13th time he’s won this honor during his five-year NBA career. The man is on fire.

In four games during the week he was selected, LeBron led the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 3-1 record. He averaged 28.8 points on 50.6 percent shooting, 12.3 rebounds and 10.5 assists. These numbers gave LeBron yet another mark in history: He’s now the first player since Wilt Chamberlain (March 16-20, 1968) to average double digits in points, rebounds and assists during a four-game span.

In this same week, LeBron also recorded his fifth triple-double of the season, which was the 15th of his career. He is the third youngest NBA player, behind Oscar Robertson and Magic Johnson, to make those numbers.

It is easy to see why he was the MVP at this year's NBA All-Star game at the beginning of the same week. This recognition of his skills and talent reminds us of why King James is a legend in the making. He loves the game of basketball; he believes in himself. He works hard, and he delivers on the court.

He’s definitely the man.
